HISTORY
Ardgour
is situated at the Corran Narrows on the eastern side of the Ardnamurchan
Penninsular.
The
Corran Narrows is the part of Loch Linnhe that shrinks to approx
200 yards. Here the ferry has plied to and fro for some hundreds
of years, from just a row-boat to todays modern, passenger / vehicle
ferry.
The
ferry was upgraded to transport vehichles in 1935, this meant that
the time-consuming but delightful journey round the loch was cut
to just a simple crossing.
On
crossing the water, you enter into the beautiful but sparsley populated
districts of Ardgour, Morvern, and Ardnamurchan :- a very remote
area which was reliatively unknow and inaccessible to the traveller
during the 1800's but now a very popular holiday destination.

The
original 'Road to the Isles' was over the Corran Narrows and at
the top of the slipway on the Ardnamurchan side of Loch Linnhe lies
the old Inn at Ardgour, Fort William.
Hospitality
has been offered here to travellers for hundreds and although the
buildings have been altered, the traditional welcome remains the
same. Click here to view
